Our Culinary Philosophy

Our cuisine is fresh from ‘the garden to the table‘ and enriched with creative, customized dishes. The flavors of Fregate Island are a pure inspiration for our chefs, which have designed a perfect menu to satisfy all your desires. Regularly tasting menus or chef favorites‘ are our key to keep you spoiled all the way.
Let us spoil you with life cooking dinners by the Yacht Club or a barbecue by the beach. Make sure to address your culinary desires to your personal assistant and we will make sure, that you will travel on the most relishable journeys of taste!

More than 80% of our fresh ingredients are organic products from our own garden.
Our small island is fertile and bountiful, and we host one of the largest hydroponic systems in the Seychelles, so we are able to grow whatever our chef‘s desire to create the most colorful and tasteful dishes for you.

Our organic and pure food is a delicious part of a beautifully natural stay on Fregate Island.

Unique Dining Experiences

On Fregate Island, it is all about unique island dining experiences nearly anywhere and anytime you like. It is part of enjoying complete freedom and immersing yourself in the natural surroundings.
If it’s breakfast up high in the Banyan Tree House surrounded by singing Fairy Terns or a sunset cocktail on Mont Signal with a magnificent view, private picnics at one of our seven fairy-tale beaches, a candle-light beach barbecue or ‘dine-and-win .

For a sociable evening please join us at Fregate House restaurant. Our main restaurant is located in the open Fregate House, it is characterized by a plantation style and casual elegance. You will find a fine à la carte restaurant where you can dine while admiring the beautiful scenery of the clear blue ocean and the islands of Praslin and La Digue on the horizon.

Plantation House, back in the day, was the home of the former plantation owner before the island became the unique paradise it is today, so it is just the perfect venue for our weekly ‘Creole Night’. Everyone comes together to enjoy the local cuisine while listening to traditional Creole music.

The Rock Spa

A natural haven of serenity, nestled in a cliff-top plateau commanding panoramic views of the sea, the Rock Spa celebrates the island’s unique surroundings and embraces the traditional elements of earth, air, fire and water.
The Rock Spa is a truly natural Seychellois spa experience which embraces the ecology of its unique surroundings. Using only pure, natural products prepared from ingredients grown on the island and free from any chemical or artificial additives, the Rock Spa’s treatments and therapies incorporate countless medical plants and natural local products. The team of qualified therapists blend indigenous knowhow with principles of herbalism and aromatherapy to create unique scrubs, pastes and oils which form the basis of traditional treatments for relaxation, revitalization, detoxification or specific ailments.
The Rock Spa is a place for reflection, inspiration and sublime indulgence.

A fully equipped gym
There is no need to let your fitness regime take a vacation while at Fregate Island. With tropical gardens as your focal point, step up your routine in our modern gym, equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment. Personal trainers for private sessions will be available upon request.

Yoga and Meditation
Morning yoga is the most energizing, transcending and enlightening experience. Join us every Monday to Friday at 8am for a group session of morning yoga at the Rock Spa. The perfect way to shake off sleepiness, stretch and strengthen, gently energize your body and focus your mind.

Island Activities

Lean back and let nature entertain you as giant tortoises continue on their progress, scarlet fodies dance over breakfast linen and fruit bats glide through the blue skies. You can fill every moment with island activities, with round the island races on hobie cats, scuba diving, deep sea fishing and exploring our forest trails teaming with indigenous wildlife. We have a well maintained tennis & basketball court and a volleyball field down by the marina. Whatever you do, we promise it will be designed to offer you an entirely private view of our pristine nature. We offer our guests three sports boats, a flotilla of two hobie cats, a professional PADI certified dive centre and we have our own private harbour with floating pontoon moorings. Our Conservation Team will love to take you out on a ‘Turtle-Tagging-Mission’ or on a Night Walk through our impressive Jungle.

With your personal Fregate Island buggy, you will have the possibility to discover the wonders of the Island on your own and experience on route adventures. The Buggy is an electrical powered golf cart and is parked outside of your villa, waiting for you to ‘get on the road’.

Stargazing is a truly special occasion as there is no unnatural light pollution, from a hilltop vantage point to a boat on the sea or a sandy shore, we will guide you around the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere.

Hiking

There are 11 km of trails criss-crossing our island, which you can walk or explore by golf buggy. A nature walk with our resident conservationist is an inspiring and encouraging journey into the island's ecosystem, giving you a deeper understanding of the role conservation plays in our island life.

Some trails will lead you from one to the other beach, through indigenous forests, open areas that hold exceptional views overlooking the coastal woodland and other islands in the distance and others loop through forests, showing off the Seychelles’ endemic wildlife.

Find the rare Tenebaum beetle, unique to Fregate Island , or our precious Wrights Gardenia, the first to flower in the Seychelles. On a nightime safari you will see the rare fluorescent scorpion and discover that our variety with small tails, big claws can only sting. Nature is gentle on our island.

Our suggested trails change with the seasons and therefore we always recommend to speak to your Personal Assistant and ask for the recommendet options while you are staying with us.

Family Adventure

Fregate Island, a nature’s idyllic playground to nonstop inspire, amaze and enthuse your little ones as well as your teenagers.
With more than 3,500 free-roaming Aldabra giant tortoises and just 17 villas, every moment will have the thrill of discovery and the feeling of being a castaway. Our terrifically engaging conservation team will ensure that the whole family will explore and understand the wondrous beauty of
this jewel of sustainability and conservation.

As legend has it, the notorious La Buse hid his pirate treasure on Fregate Island, inspiring many piratical hunts and games. Our Castaway Trail leads them through parts of the jungle that are out of bounds for adults where the giant tortoises and many other wonderful and fantastical animals and plants thrive and where you find old pirate’s ruins from long forgotten times. Together with our conservation manager, the young ones also get a tour of the island‘s wildlife that is as educational as it is entertaining. Our team will create an unsurpassable magical experience for children, showing them natural phenomenon like the smoking fungi and how to move a giant tortoise by scratching its back.
A sheltered shore makes for easy swimming and there are seven beaches for body boarding, hobie cats and excellent snorkelling. Each villa has its own infinity pool, large living rooms and terraces, what ensures the most comfortable hosting for a family of four or even five, or there are splendid two bedroom villas. The Fregate Island buggy gives you complete independence to explore the island and it‘s treasures with your little ones.

Become a little Conservationist
A three-day program, for children of all ages, that have always wanted to encounter the wonders our pristine nature holds for us. Adventurous and educational activities are awaiting our young explorers, while they experience the truly unique nature of Fregate Island Private, that never misses to amaze one. An out-of-the-ordinary schedule, full of activities that will be tailored for each young explorer to ensure fun and interesting time with our conservationists. The program is consisting of activities like monitoring our populations of nesting sea turtles, exploring the historic pirate ruins and going on a treasure hunt, meeting the littlest of the Aldabra giant tortoises and taking care of them in our tortoise nursery, learning about endemic land birds & plants of Fregate Island and how an ecosystem works, meet our orphaned fruit bat Baloo and take a little lesson in sustainability. Snorkel in the warm waters around the island and visit the coral restoration sites, explore the underwater world, and learn more about the ecosystem you find beneath the surface.

Treasures & Stories
As you enter the veranda of the former plantation owner‘s residence, the charm of the colonial architecture transports you back in time. It is a venue full of character for special events. The museum has interesting displays of marine flora and fauna and records the island’s history which began as a pirate’s hideaway in the 17th Century. In fact, it is believed the notorious buccaneer, La Buse, hid his treasure on the island and it is yet to be found.

Water Sports

Our Marina is home to three sports boats, a flotilla of two hobie cats and a professional PADI dive center. We have our own private harbour with floating pontoon moorings, where you not only find our boats but also calm waters for your first try on a SUP or kayak.
There is sailing, advanced surfing and kayaking equipment, with optimists for children, windsurfing boards, water skis or banana towing.

The Dive Centre at Fregate Island Marina offers various diving courses and certifications. All guided dives are conducted from one of our dive vessels. There are numerous beautiful sites, which are exclusive to Fregate Island guests, and suit all levels of diver from beginner through to experienced. A PADI Instructor will accompany you on each dive. Certified divers are required to show proof of certification before diving.

Diving

The marine environment around Fregate Island is truly diverse and unspoiled, teeming with color and dramatic topography. You can simply slip into the sea from four of our beaches and swim a few minutes out to a reef, soon you will be enveloped in a sunlit cloud of yellow unicorn fish or a manta ray may glide past. We take great care of our surrounding seas, working alongside nature’s own environmental team. Underwater you could come across a grazing turtle playing its vital role in the ecosystem, removing overgrown sponges which can smother healthy corals. Or you might hear the rhythmic munch of parrot fish eating algae off coral, keeping it clean and healthy.
Come beneath the waves to see how Fregate Island is protecting its coral reef. After consecutive coral bleaching events, our coral is starting to recover in spectacular style. To give it a helping hand, we have partnered with Coralive.org and Blancpain Ocean Commitment, and established a novel coral restoration project on our eastern reef. Explore the site with our conservation team and learn more about the methods used to protect and restore our reef.

We have our own PADI dive center and our dive masters know just where to drop you to explore giant granite boulders and a thousand years old coral formations, where you can encounter an array of different fish species, turtles, rays, and for the daring, rays, sailfish, even whaleshark.
Snorkeling equipment is available for all guests and inclusive of the room rate. Get your gear and start exploring the underwater world from the shores of our beaches or charter one of our yachts for a trip to nearby Little Fregate, where it is like being dropped into an aquarium.
A guided scuba dive with one of our dive instructors or dive masters, who know all the privately protected reefs, will bring you all the joys you can think of for a blue safari.

We also offer PADI certified diving courses for all levels - starting from the little ones in the pool and ending with the masters in the great ocean.

Big Game Fishing

The marine environment around Fregate Island is truly diverse and unspoiled, teeming with colour and dramatic topography. To protect this prestine world below the sea, we only offer catch and release fishing trips within the marine park.

For deep sea fishing enthusiasts, we are the nearest island to the ’Drop Off‘ where the sea bed falls away to thousands of meters. Fishing along the abyss is some of the best in the world with frequent catches. This is the feeding grounds for Amberjacks, Yellowfin Tuna and Striped Marlin.
Anything you catch our chef will be delighted to transform into sashimi if you wish.
